NanjingTech was authorized in 2017 by the Confucius Institute Headquarters/Hanban to grant Confucius Institute Scholarship (CIS) for the purpose of fostering qualified Chinese language teachers and facilitating the promotion of Chinese language and culture.

Confucius Institute Scholarship (CIS) was established in 2009 with the aim facilitating the establishment of Confucius Institute and financing the exchange of foreign teachers and students to study in China. Up till 2016, CIS has funded 45,000 foreign teachers and students from 163 countries.
