In 2007, Jiangsu Provincial government founded Jiangsu Key Laboratory of Digital Manufacturing for Industrial Equipment and Control Technology, taking NanjingTech as the depending unit. The lab, facing Jiangsu manufacturing industry, aims to track the world's latest technology development, conduct research in digital manufacturing for industrial equipment and control technology to shape itself into an expert research center for Jiangsu manufacturing industry and the society at large.

It plans to become a public service organization that integrates the socio-technical resources ensures that the manufacturing enterprises for industrial equipment are able to make full use of such resources. Meanwhile, it aims to develop into a hatcher agency accessible to the manufacturing industries to carry out fruits nurturing and transfer, and technological introduction and promotion. Also, the lab is to be a training center responsible for the nurturing of specialized technical talents and specialized skills for manufacturing industries.
