Molecular Behavior in Small Spaces

主要内容:Concave surfaces are ideal for molecular recognition studies as synthetic receptors must present complementary shapes to convex small molecule targets. This lecture describes receptors known as cavitands that use intermolecular forces and fold around their target molecules. The energetics and dynamics of the recognition event are presented, and cavitands outfitted with functional groups on their rims are shown to give rise to unusual reactivity. An example of an amine reacting with a receptor bearing an inwardly-directed aldehyde group is shown below.

主讲人介绍:

Julius Rebek, Jr.教授,1970年获麻省理工大学博士学位,1970-1976年任加州大学洛杉矶分校助理教授,1976-1989年任匹兹堡大学副教授、教授,1989-1996年任麻省理工大学教授,1996年起任美国Scripps研究所教授,Skaggs化学生物学研究所所长,是国际著名的物理有机化学家及超分子化学家。迄今为止,在世界顶级期刊发表科研论文500余篇,其中包括Nature(5篇),Science(11篇), J. Am. Chem. Soc. (167篇),Angew. Chem. Int. Ed.(31篇);发表综述论文40篇。
